صحف نت - EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides met Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Abdel Malak Al-Mekhlafi in Brussels Tuesday and discussed the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
According to an European Commission spokesperson, Stylianides stressed that the only way to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen is by reaching a peace agreement and a political solution.
He noted that the "EU is committed to assisting the people of Yemen wherever they are. Every effort must be made to facilitate humanitarian access. Attacks on aid workers continue to happen and all parties must do everything to stop this." "We must not allow Yemen to continue being a forgotten crisis," underlined EU official.
The EU Commissioner highlighted that the EU continues to be a top donor for this terrible humanitarian crisis. With 116 million euros (USD 126 mn) pledged by the Commission in the pledging conference in Geneva last week and together with its Member States, the EU came as the top donor in the conference accounting for 50 percent of all pledges.
