A local source in Dhamar city, central Yemen, said on Sunday that the Houthi group had released one of its supervisors involved in the murder of the people of Otuma district more than five months ago.
The source told Almasdaronline that Tawfiq Sorour (Abu Al-Qasim), a leader in the Houthi group, had left the Central Prison of Dhamar to an unknown location, after spending a few days in it.
Sorour worked as a supervisor for the Houthi group in the Haran police station north of Dhamar, and had shot dead the Houthi element Mubarak al-Fadl, who belongs to Otuma district, west of Dhamar province.
After the incident, armed gunmen from Otuma surrounded the Central Prison building and clashed with the Houthis, demanding to apply the death sentence on Sorour, who belongs to Amran province, north of the capital Sanaa, or hand him over to them.
However, the Houthis absorbed the wrath of the tribesmen and took Sorour to the prison for several months, before releasing him on Sunday.
